Clear aligners offer a more subtle, less obtrusive way to straighten out a smile than traditional metal braces, or even ceramic braces. Made of plastic, clear aligners are transparent, allowing patients to wear them without anyone realising. They are much more flexible than braces, and most patients find they can fit this treatment in with their lifestyle much more easily than metal braces.
All clear aligner treatments first start with taking either an impression or a digital scan of the teeth and mouth. This is then used to evaluate the teeth and build a treatment plan, and ultimately to provide a picture of what the teeth will look like at the end of the treatment.
Using these digital images, technicians at an off-site laboratory will then make your aligners for you. We’ll fit them for you here once ready, and you’ll wear each set of aligners for up to 22 hours a day for the next two or so weeks. You’ll then switch out that set of aligners for a new set to ensure the correct movement of the teeth.
This can depend, according to which clear aligner system you use, and the position of the teeth at the start of the treatment. Most patients straightening their teeth through a clear aligner system will wear their aligners for between nine and 18 months.
Here at Desford Dental Care, we can offer our patients a range of clear aligner systems, including Invisalign®, Inman Aligner™ and our own clear aligner system.
