At Desford Dental Care, our calm, compassionate and highly skilled dental team have years of experience when it comes to placing a filling.
At Desford Dental Care, we place an emphasis on preventive dental care, and it is our aim that most of our patients may well never need a filling. There are times, however, when a filling is the course of action to return full function to the tooth and prevent any further damage.
What is a filling?
Fillings are used to help repair a damaged tooth. This can come about as a result of simple wear and tear, an injury, or a cavity due to decay. They can also be used to help repair a tooth with a chip or that has been damaged due to abrasion, and acid erosion.
How do I know if I need a filling?
If you are visiting us here at Desford Dental Care for regular check-ups, then one of our knowledgeable team may recognise you need a filling before you are even aware of it. Many patients do experience symptoms related to needing a filling, however. These symptoms include toothache, pain when you chew or bite down, and increased sensitivity. If you’re experiencing any of these, then we would recommend you get in touch with us as soon as possible.
What are fillings made of?
Fillings are often made of a metal amalgam material or a composite resin. Metal amalgam fillings have a silvery finish while composite resin fillings feature a much more natural appearance, and can be shade-matched to fit seamlessly in with the rest of the mouth.
What is the treatment like?
Receiving a filling is a fairly routine, simple treatment, and you may only have to be in the treatment room for an hour. We will place you under local anaesthetic at the beginning of the treatment, so you won’t experience any discomfort. We understand that for many patients, receiving a treatment such as a filling can be a daunting and nerve-wracking experience.
Our whole team is well trained and highly experienced when it comes to treating nervous patients. With years of experience placing fillings and our gentle, compassionate approach even our most nervous patients feel calm and cared for when visiting us.
