At Desford Dental Care, our cosmetic focus, compassionate approach, and experienced team make us the natural choice when receiving a crown.
What is a crown?
As the name suggests, a crown is used to crown or cap a tooth that has been damaged. This damage has usually occurred as a result of decay or injury, and a crown can help not only repair the tooth but protect it from further damage. We may also use crowns in conjunction with another treatment such as a bridge or root canal treatment.
What are crowns made of?
Crowns can be made of several different materials. Most commonly, they’re made of precious metals like gold, porcelain or ceramic, or Zirconia. At Desford Dental Care, our friendly, approachable team will talk through your options with you before receiving the treatment, so you can rest assured you’re receiving the crown that’s right for you.
What is the treatment like?
Receiving a crown is fairly routine treatment, but it will take place over two or more appointments, and it does take great skill and care – luckily, we excel at both of these. Once we have determined that you should receive a crown, we’ll remove the damaged or weak parts of the tooth and take a digital scan.
This scan will then be sent to a technician at a dental laboratory who will make your crown specifically for you. Each crown is unique to the patient and the tooth being treated and designed to fit in as seamlessly as possible in the mouth. When the crown is ready, you’ll return to us here at Desford Dental Care where we’ll fit your crown, after first giving you a local anaesthetic.
